A past that still haunts. The present is the conduit in coming to terms
with that past. The hurt, agony, despair. All the turmoil of growing up.
The innocence shattered by an incident. An unforgettable moment.
Unspoken.
But it needs to find that outlet to let go of that past. To come
to terms with what happened. Or else it will linger and fester, destroying
oneself from within.
The fun continues with Peter meeting his so-called father. And what a
fun ride indeed for everyone.
Here is a film that does not take itself seriously and that is the
beauty of this franchise. References to past popular culture is strewn
everywhere. The one liners are delightful. The out of this world super heroes
is cute. It helps that the actors themselves look as if they are enjoying their
outing and this puts the audience at ease.
Continuing the usual hectic fast pace of the previous episodes, we get
more of the same adrenaline rush. Watching the story unfold with the good guys using
their latest gadgets, those who are in tune with the franchise will find this latest
offering their cup of tea.
This time around, Dom, the main man has to do the bidding of the bad
guys. To the detriment of his friends. Why and how he manages to get out of
that situation is the gist of the story.
I guess almost everyone knows the tale and for me the animated version
remains the standard.
This is a good effort despite its shortcomings. The story line still
tugs at your heart strings at the appropriate moments. You root for the hero
and wish those who have evil intentions will get their just dues.
As a lot depended on the songs, the lyrics convey a lot. The actors may
not be natural singers but had enough gumption to carry it through.
This might be another version of the classic King Kong tale but all
versions seem to have a similar thread. We are reminded repeatedly how inhuman
man is when it comes to the other species that inhabit this planet of ours.
The delicate equilibrium that should be maintained is almost always
upset by the man’s ambitions and machinations. We are incorrigible. It is
always us first at the expense of the others who share this place called home.
This time around, we hope the perpetrators will learn their lesson.
A dedicated teacher faces obstacles in trying to mould students from a
rural school in an English choral speaking competition. Each student has their
own characteristic, no doubt coloured by their own family background and
surroundings. A mix of personalities. Full of potential but hindered in their
progress by circumstances.
A dedicated teacher is also a rare find. The teaching profession has had
such a bashing that it is a thankless job. Sacrifices must be made. The actions
of a single teacher can only do so much.
Having an education is still a luxury for some. But that thirst for
knowledge is always there. They have the heart and determination to succeed if
the appropriate help and encouragement comes along. If not, they will be just
another statistic of the failures.
Logan, our mutant super hero is not the same as in previous instalments.
He is old, keeping his emotions pent up within himself and dedicating himself
to the Professor. But a girl disrupts that routine.
A tale of loyalty and family relationships. Sacrifices and how human all
of us are, even mutants. Even though a minority, they are still a part of
humanity.
A new generation must decide what is best for themselves. They will
always be those who want to exploit them. The question remains on how to retain
that human spirit whilst opposing those with evil intentions.
When your home, a retreat from the outside world is destroyed, vengeance
is the order of the day.
John Wick gets help from those who are on his side in the organisation in
his assignment. Done grudgingly. Unfortunately, the task does not have a
complete end.
This would be a pleasure to those who love action movies. The spins,
jumps and cartwheels dovetailing throughout the movie shows the skills of the
exponents. An ordinary mortal like me can only look in awe.
The story line of getting a valuable instrument back into the hands of
the authorities is just an aside. Actors who are more well known for non-action
roles such as Toni Collette and Samuel L. Jackson seem to being lots of fun
hamming up their characters. I guess it is just a stroll for them.
The men behind the action sequences must have trained hard and long to
make it look so easy.
If action per minute is what you are looking for, you would not be
disappointed.
How does one cope when
something tragic happens to you? Physically, emotionally abused, disturbed.
In this case, the lady in
question seems to take the unfamiliar path of letting the event pass by. She
continues her life as if nothing of importance happened until further
disturbances changes the situation.
During the same period her
family’s past is catching up with her. Another hiccup in an ordinary life.
She must have considered all
her options in trying to find a resolution. A decision that should put to rest
all the past events.
You can feel the adrenalin
pumping as that moment comes closer.
A man and a woman. A brother who is protective and cares for the sister
even though it a trying task.
The couple have their shortcomings but an incident brought them closer.
In the beginning, it was a one-sided affair, but circumstances changed the
situation.
A look at how society accepts those at the periphery. Out of sight, out
of mind, most probably.
In the end, love is the strong binding factor. It seems able to surmount
all obstacles that came hurtling.
A huge development project that will transform a part of the city into a
vision of progress and modernity.
Faux pas architecture, with all its attendant grotesque design. Beautiful
to some, but ugly beyond redemption for others.
This place witnesses the transformation of a boy from the village into a
man. At first innocent, and eventually wise to the city’s ways. The accidental
encounter with his elder brother brought a different perspective to his world
view. In the end, he had to make decisions of which path to take.
A familiar theme of the rural urban migration scene.
A death affects everyone. The way each of them handles that event is the
focus of this film.
The mother who is the most affected is living in her own world That is
her coping mechanism. But her behaviour puts a strain on the family
relationship. How long will this last?
A gentle pace, lets the audience into the anguish, love lost and helplessness
that engulfs the family.
Graffiti. Ugly, dirty, an eye sore to some, but to the artist, it is an
outlet of expression. Within that space allotted to each or any space that they
have chosen, beauty unfolds.
A friendship, a bond, going through the roughs and tumbles.
The pure, honest feelings for everyone to see, admire, or just of no
consequence.
Trying to find a parking space with the aim of spending the night
together. You have got to be kidding, right? That is the premise of the story
and it seems like an easy task.
A man and a woman. Different backgrounds and life experiences. They have
the whole night to be closer to each other. But not in the privacy of a home.
The parking problem puts paid to that dream.
A secluded village, safe from the turmoil of the outside world. Alas,
youthful spirit and a sense of adventure beckons one of the young man. His
younger brother follows suit and we have an adventure.
The bond between brothers, the atrocities of war, the unequal treatment
of fellow men are all subjects on display.
A happy ending might be a given, but how the director pulls us along is
a pleasure. Emotional roller coaster as well, since the sins of man is aplenty.
Has a 20-years lapse made memories more vivid or distorted. That might
be the premise of the film.
Adapted from a stage play, it deals with paedophiles, religion, love and
affection.
Would a loving touch be construed as a sexual advance towards an
unsuspecting victim? A child will almost always look up to his elders for love
and protection. Has that trust been abused?
Questions. Memories. Which version is true to the events.
The victim and the alleged perpetrator. Both need help to continue with
their daily lives. Bringing a sense of normalcy back.
A delicate situation. If it is true, the guilty must be punished. But if
the accused is not guilty, an innocent bears the consequences.
An aging French cross dresser who calls Cambodia home. Mix that with drugs,
child prostitution and the ongoing trials of those involved during the Khmer
Rouge era.
He might seem ensconced in his own world but he has a heart. We can only
wonder whether there is such a character in real life. Someone who transplants
himself to another country, for whatever reason and trying to live as best as
he can.
Then comes other characters in his life which disturbs his routine. How
he handles that situation is the main theme.
The film depends a lot on the main character, and the lead actor does
not disappoint. The child actress and the other supporting lend their poignant
take on real life situations.
I do wish that some of the scenes especially those involving children
did not happen. There is still a lot of work to be done before all the children
will be able to live through their childhood years peacefully.
