Rafi (Uma Thuman), a recently divorced 37 years old starts a relationship with 23 years old David (Bryan Greenberg). This state of affairs is complicated by the fact that Rafi's therapist Lisa (Meryl Streep) is David's mother. None of them knew of this 6th degrees of separation until much later. Rafi and David did try to make a success of their feelings for each other. But the chances were stacked against them. The age difference does play a significant role in certain circumstances, eg, attitudes towards life. The fact that Rafi was not Jewish and recently divorced was another minus point. The story did not end on a happy ever after finale but the lovers learnt a lesson or two along the way during their relationship.
Meryl Streep was brilliant in the scene when she finally realised that the man Rafi was talking about is her own son.
