A Japanese father-son bonding against the backdrop of a small village soon to be replaced by a dam. Misty eyed after the first ten minutes. Then had to control the tears until the end. Misunderstanding between father and son. An estranged daughter who left the family fold. A father who is proud of his village even though he was going to make it big in the big city. The son realises bit by bit all that the father holds dear. Revelations by the family friend jolts the son to acknowledge that the father is such a special person, maybe even extraordinary to have survived in the village for a lifetime. The story goes at a steady pace until a half expected ending. But the director manages to pull all the right emotional strings. Very statisfrying watch.
