Supposedly a love story but if there were no pantuns strewn throughout the film, the images can be interpreted in a million other ways. But it is true that the chosen pantuns do connote the erotic in the Malay culture. Hearing the pantun gives the film an almost pornographic feel. The Malay culture is such that the underlying meaning is so so much more than what it seems to be at first glance.
